The final day of competitions in the European Short Course Swimming Championships being held in Kazan, Russia brought further success to the Maltese contingent with another two National Records.
Thomas Wareing, competing in the 400m Individual Medley established a new record time of. 04:27.54, beating his own record of 04:40.02 which he established in Manchester in October 2016.
Sasha Gatt competed in the 400m freestyle event clocking a time of 04:17.41 beating the previous record time of 04:21.37 which Mya Azzopardi established in Istanbul earlier on in March.
“We couldn’t be prouder and happier at the results Dylan, Sasha and Thomas have achieved in the European Short Course Swimming Championships. These results show that the work being put in by the swimmers and their coaches with the support of the Association, the Maltese Olympic Committee and SportMalta are bearing fruit. We are optimistically cautious for our sport’s participation in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in 2022, the Games of the Small States of Europe in 2023 and the Olympic Games in 2024” commented Joe Caruana Curran, President of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta.
The Maltese contingent will return to Malta on Monday 8th November.
