Go&Fun BSJ Sprint Triathlon Salina Course Record broken in a span of two weeks

Julian Harding proved that his debut in the triathlon sphere was no fluke when he broke the course record he himself set a fortnight ago in the Go&Fun Sprint Triathlon on Sunday.

The new Salina course record now stands at 58minutes 33 seconds.

First out of the water Harding went on to the bike course intent on keeping the lead ahead of Keith Galea. Former swimmer Harding registered improvement in the swim and bike segments but saw a slightly longer time on the run. Nevertheless, the seconds lost in the run did not have an effect on the final result which saw him register a new course record.

Harding was followed by Keith Galea who finished the race in 1:02:05. Galea clocked the fastest run split of the day. In third place was Jesrit Angel Camilleri, who despite exiting the water in 10th place, made up for the gap in the bike and run segments to finish the race in 1:07:10

The female race was won by Danica Bonello Spiteri, who missed out on the first race due to competitive commitments abroad.  Bonello Spiteri took the lead from the word go and kept on widening the gap between her and second placed Pia Zammit, as she progressed from one discipline to another. Bonello Spiteri finished the race in 1 hour 7 minutes 51 seconds, with Zammit clocking in a time of 1:17.18. In third place was Eva Resnich in a time of 1:24.36.

“This year’s races are no short of thrills and surprises. Which makes up for the damper that the pandemic has put on the sporting scene.  We look forward to seeing more competitive performances as we proceed to the next race in September”,explained Euchar Camilleri, Secretary General, Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club.

The Club expressed its gratitude towards Go&Fun Energy Drink Malta, Transport Malta, Naxxar Local Council, Birkirkara and Naxxar Police district offices.

The third race of the Go&Fun BSJ Sprint Triathlon Series will take place on Sunday 5th September in Salina.
