Despite being a sheltered location, the Mtarfa By Pass was still hit by strong winds which made conditions for the second race of the Eurosport BSJ 5k Road Running Series tougher. Organised by the Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club and held under the auspices of the Malta Amateur Athletics Association, the race once again attracted over two hundred athletes.
Simon Spiteri took the lead from the start but there was no giving up on the possibility of second win from Pedro Lopez de Haro who was hot on Spiteri’s heels from the word go. Spiteri maintained his lead well into the second lap but Lopez de Haro took the win, with an advantage of seven seconds. Both males registered improved timings from the previous race. Third placed was Mark Herrera, who crossed the finish line ten seconds after Spiteri and shaved off thirty seconds from the first race.
